What proves the greatest challenge for the advancement of lawyers and legal professionals of Asian ancestry within the broader legal profession? Is it race and culture? Lack of social mobility? The burden of class or caste or the racial hierarchy? Are some of these concepts better understood in some countries, making it easier for Asians in those countries to adapt?
In the UK, is it easier to talk about social mobility rather than race? In the US, is race a more comfortable issue for discussion than social mobility? What about in Canada or on the European Continent? How, when, and where are we discussing the obstacles to professional advancement and success? Does the ability (or inability) to address them, impact career opportunities and success for Asian lawyers and legal professionals?
In this next installment of IILP's History and Heritage Month Webinar Series, we take the conversation to the UK to examine what Asian lawyers in different parts of the world can learn from each other about how to navigate the challenges in their respective countries and how they might better support each other.
This webinar will be livestreamed from the UK, and is part of IILP's half day conference, Asian Lawyers and Legal Professionals in Europe and North America: Achieving Professional Success When You’re a Racial Minority.
The program is being offered free of charge to all lawyers and staff for IILP’s Visionary Partners, Partners, and Allies.
The program is open to the public.
