We rattle off “LGBTQ+” and various other iterations of these initials to describe the distinctions within the queer community. Often, we do so almost as a reflex, without considering what each of those letters stands for, what each means, and who are the people each one seeks to describe. As a result, it becomes easy to focus on some while marginalizing others. The bi+ community is one such group that often gets overlooked while people focus on those who are gay, lesbian, or trans. The bi+ community is also one about which many lack understanding or harbor prejudices and biases rooted in inaccurate stereotypes and misperceptions.
As part of our LGBTQ+ History Month observations, the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession (“IILP”) invites you to join us for a discussion examining bi+ identity and issues and what we can all do to ensure that LGBTQ+ truly includes “B.”
