Jewish Americans are far from a monolithic entity.
Implicit bias education teaches us that our brains like to group and categorize others so as to allow us to make seemingly logical and easily understood assumptions about those whom we do not know well. While such assumptions can serve some purposes, reality tends to be much more complex and nuanced. Like other groups, it is a mistake to assume that all Jewish Americans think, feel, or believe the same things. Indeed, like other communities, there can be a wide spectrum of opinions and attitudes within the Jewish American community. And when others attempt to politicize those opinions and attitudes, or act upon incomplete assumptions about them, it does a disservice to everyone, most especially that community.
Please join us as we mark Jewish American Heritage Month with a special presentation by and discussion with historian and Rabbi Jon Roos of Temple Sinai about the diversity of opinions within and corresponding actions by the Jewish American community.
